Metrics & KPIs
What is Conversion rate?
Conversion rate is the percentage of people who complete a desired action after clicking your ad or reaching your page: conversions divided by clicks (or landing-page views), times 100. It is where ad performance and website performance meet.
Formula
Conversion rate = (conversions ÷ clicks) × 100
Example
200 clicks produce 6 purchases → conversion rate = (6 ÷ 200) × 100 = 3%. Double that rate to 6% and your CPA halves with zero extra ad spend — which is why the page often matters more than the ads.
Why it matters
Conversion rate multiplies with your click cost to set your CPA, so a small lift here cascades into cheaper acquisition across every campaign. A weak conversion rate is usually a landing-page or offer problem, not an audience problem — Meta can send perfect traffic and still fail on a slow or unconvincing page.
How to use and improve it
Improve it with faster load times, tight message match between ad and page, obvious trust signals, a clear offer, and a mobile-first checkout. Test one change at a time so you know what actually moved the number.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good conversion rate for Facebook ad traffic?
Many e-commerce stores land around 1–3% from cold ad traffic, with warm and retargeting traffic higher. Treat that as a starting reference and benchmark against your own history.
Is a low conversion rate the ad's fault or the page's fault?
If the ad earns clicks (healthy CTR) but few convert, the landing page or offer is usually the bottleneck. If almost nobody clicks, the problem is upstream in the creative.
What's the difference between conversion rate and CTR?
CTR measures clicks per impression — did the ad earn attention. Conversion rate measures actions per click — did the page and offer close the sale. Both need to work for a profitable CPA.
